This is the 1st edition of our newsletter... We have TONS of updates to share including my new research paper with OpenAI, Google, & Microsoft, updates to our Learn Prompting Docs, & new Courses!

If you're receiving this email, it means that you’ve joined my newsletter from one of our previous projects like… Learn Prompting (free, open-source Prompt Engineering guide). Or our ChatGPT for Everyone course, which we created in partnership with OpenAI.

Sander (Learn Prompting, CEO) & Shyamal (OpenAI, Applied AI) recording the ChatGPT for Everyone course

Hi, I’m Sander 👋

I’m a Generative AI researcher, and the creator of Learn Prompting, the 1st Prompt Engineering guide on the internet, AKA the Learn Prompting guide. It has been used by over 3,000,000 people to date, and been cited as a recommended Prompt Engineering resource by OpenAI & Google.

Original Learn Prompting Docs

Since then, I’ve taught Prompt Engineering workshops to the GTM team at OpenAI & to the entire AI/ML Community at Microsoft (which was one of Microsoft’s highest-attended internal events in 2024).

What you can expect from this Newsletter

We’ve been working on a lot of new exciting projects in the Generative AI space, and are excited to share them going forward in this weekly newsletter.

Here’s what you can expect each week:

  • The latest research in Prompt Engineering

  • No-BS updates from the top GenAI players

  • New prompting techniques and tools

  • Learn Prompting community news

Let’s get into the first edition!

My latest research paper on Prompting with OpenAI, Microsoft, & Google

I just recently led a team of 32 researchers from OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, Princeton, Stanford, and more, to publish The Prompt Report. This 80+ page document covers 200+ prompting techniques you need to know, and the 58 most effective Prompting Techniques.

If you’re into prompting, don’t miss this… this is The Most Comprehensive Study of Prompting Ever Done.

Or… read our article (link below) where we recap our findings from the Prompt Report below for more non-technical folks:

It went viral…

The Prompt Report went viral on Twitter a few months ago and was shared by Dr. Yang, the Head of DevRel at Mistral, receiving over 2,300 likes!

Remember, there’s no magic formula for writing the perfect prompt. It’s all about iteration and perfecting the fundamentals.

NEW: AI/ML Red Teaming & AI Safety: Live Cohort 🔴

In 2023, we partnered w/ OpenAI, ScaleAI, & HuggingFace to run HackAPrompt, the largest AI Safety competition ever!

Today, HackAPrompt has been cited & used by teams at OpenAI, Amazon, and nearly every AI security company.

Many of our winners have gone on to be hired as AI Red Teamers by leading AI security companies—one of the newest career fields created as a result of Generative AI.

Essentially, an AI Red Teamer is responsible for attacking AI systems to trick these models into outputting harmful information. This work is essential for building safer AI models, and requires an understanding of Prompt Hacking, Prompt Injections, and vulnerabilities of an AI System.

We created this live, cohort-based course to teach you everything we know about AI Red-Teaming so you can deploy safer GenAI models or transition into a new career as an AI Red Teamer!

Tweet of the Day

The Rephrase and Respond (RaR) technique got much attention from the Learn Prompting community on Twitter! RaR asks the large language model (LLM) to rephrase the prompt and give an answer.

It’s gotten mixed reviews from the community, with some questioning its effectiveness.\

Latent Space x Learn Prompting Podcast

I just spoke on the Latent Space podcast to talk about The Prompt Report, and HackAPrompt… Huge fan of this podcast, and it was an honor to be a speaker. Check it out!
